Almost a decade ago, Animal House was founded by Dawn and Peter Brittain. Even though the location changed a couple of times over the past 9 years, Animal House's mission has remained the same - to provide a social and safe environment with lots of love and attention for your dogs. Over 80% of our business has been through word of mouth and many of the veterinarians in the Sarasota area recommend us for our spaciousness, environment and quality of care. Many of our clients have followed us from our two previous locations and have been our inspiration in keeping our business on track. It has been a seven-days-a-week, 24-hours-a-day business for Animal House. We have five other employees, and three of those employees have been with Animal House for a long time. Cindy is the manager and works Monday through Friday. Jessica and Jennifer are well loved by our doggie clients; they are the smiling faces that meet you at the door. In the middle of 2009 the Brittains decided to relocate to the North East to be closer to family and Animal House was acquired by Gina Sundaram.
Gina and her husband moved to Sarasota from California to have their kids closer to their Grandparents who are Sarasota natives. Gina who is originally a Minnesota native, has always been an avid dog lover and has been a dog handler for show dogs including showing her own dog. Because of her experience with handling dogs and their love for animals, Gina and her husband have harbored the dream of owning and operating a Doggie Bed & Breakfast for many years. During and after the purchase of the business, it was very important for Gina to keep the mission and philosophy of Animal House intact. The staff which is the backbone of the business, that has taken care of your dogs since the beginning of 2002 remains unchanged. Cindy, Jessica and Jennifer remain the solid anchor that endears Animal House to our Doggie clients and their owners alike. Between them, the staff has a total of over 20 years of combined experience not just caring for dogs, but doing so at Animal House Doggie Bed & Breakfast. In addition, Gina, her husband and their kids live on the 5-acre property where the dogs are housed, so the residents of our Doggie Bed & Breakfast are never more than a bark away from us even in the middle of the night. Our four-legged clients truly think of our place as a home away from home.
For everyone at Animal House, the favorite part of the job is when we get a dog that is not comfortable with strangers (or other dogs) but thanks to the tender and watchful care of our experienced staff, we gradually see a 180-degree turn-around of that dog’s personality when it realizes that it is in a safe environment and no one is going to cause it any distress. Then the play begins! We really enjoy what we do for a living and that makes every day brighter!
